Ann Shearer qualified in Dundee in 1983. She held NHS posts in London, Newcastle and Bristol before being appointed as Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Manchester in 1985. While in Manchester she completed higher training in Restorative Dentistry, an MSc and a PhD and was promoted to Senior Lecturer.
In September 2001 she moved to Dundee Dental Hospital and School as Consultant/Honorary Senior Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry and Director of the BSc programme in Oral Health Sciences. She was appointed as Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean for Scotland in 2011 and moved to this post full-time in 2014.
She was first elected to BSRD council in 1990 and served as honorary secretary from 1994 until 2000. She was president of the society in 2009 when the spring scientific meeting was held in Edinburgh.
