Professor Andrew Eder

My association with the British Society for Restorative Dentistry

Andrew has thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the British Society for Restorative Dentistry for over 25 years and was thrilled to have been elected as President in 2005. His Presidential Meeting was held at Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire in May 2006 and focused on the ‘Biomimetic Design of Ceramic Restorations’. Over 200 dentists and technicians enjoyed superb presentations from Pascal and Michel Magne, a wonderful weekend of golf, splendid food and accommodation - all enjoyed with friends and colleagues.

Andrew’s career is focused on excellence and innovation in clinical dentistry, postgraduate education and lifelong learning

Educated at St. Paul’s, King’s and the Eastman, Andrew is Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Dental Education and an Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Eastman. Following a ten year term as Director of Education and CPD at the Eastman (2002-2012), Andrew was recognised for excellence and innovation in teaching and learning at UCL as a recipient of a Provost’s Teaching Award in 2010.

Andrew was also Pro-Vice-Provost at UCL responsible for short courses, professional development and executive education across the university. During his tenure (2013-2017), quality frameworks were established and a catalogue website and a public-facing e-learning platform were developed contributing to a three-fold increase in course activity and income.

As a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, Andrew has also maintained a multi-disciplinary referral practice in Central London since 1991. As Co-Editor of the BDJ book on Tooth Surface Loss, he has a special interest in the aetiology, demographics and management of patients with tooth wear.

Andrew is also a past president of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Odontological Section, a Board Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons, a postgraduate specialty examiner at UCL, Chair of the Board of Examiners for the Membership in Restorative Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons and has served on the Editorial Board of the BDJ.

And at home…..Andrew is married to Rosina and they have three children.
